Search the MLS for Northern Virginia Homes for Sale by HIGH SCHOOL
Did you know you could search for all homes for sale in Northern Virginia on the MLS by HIGH SCHOOL? Real Estate websites like Realtor.com and Zillow will allow you narrow your search with filters like Number of Bedrooms, Price Range, etc. but www.EXITGarcia.com has an added search filter—Search by High School. Here, you can start your search by selecting ANY public high school in Northern Virgina and narrow your search criteria from there.
This feature is very helpful if you are looking for a home that is in the district of a specific public high school. Here in Northern Virginia, the public schools in general are very good. However, several high schools offer Specialty Programs, clubs or sports teams that may appeal to your high school student.
For example, the Prince William County School System, serving the Haymarket and Gainesville area and beyond, offers several unique specialty programs (see list below). PWCS will allow applications from other districts into these programs but the process is selective, the commute may be long and in some cases, due to overcrowding, the program is closed to outside districts.
So, if you are in market to buy new home, and you have children who will be attending public high schools, you may want to consider moving to a neighborhood based on the high school. I will note that for the past several years, Prince William County has experienced tremendous growth and several new high schools have been built. Therefore, redistricting does occur in some neighborhoods that are on the borders. The PWCS website is helpful for learning more about district shifts in the future.
If you are unfamiliar with these high school specialty programs and are interested in moving to the Haymarket area or other towns in Prince William County, here is a list of the programs and the high schools that offer them.
